just to break my own fall

Uphill Hell = Worth It

So I went camping this weekend for Chris’ birthday celebration. Hiked 6.7 miles to the campsite with a 25 lb. pack on my back. Gotta say, the second we saw the beach was one of the happiest moments of my life. Walking uphill is hell on your body when you don’t exercise like normal people.

Headed to the beach (we were right next to it!!) and immediately regretted not bringing a bathing suit or even just flip flops. Also went to the only waterfall in the Northern Pacific (?) that flows directly to the ocean. Pretty small waterfall, but it was still pretty damn cool. Am definitely obsessed with water - true Pieces, I am.

Mile hike to the waterfall and another one back.

Spaghetti with salami for dinner with wine and swigs of Jack for the boys. This, followed by a bonfire at night on the beach is a fantastic way to celebrate a birthday. Marshmallows and more wine = pure bliss.

Slept in a too-small sleeping bag without a sleeping pad and rocks underneath me, then woke up around 7 AM. Packed stuff up and trekked the 6.7 miles back. Luckily, the trip back was mainly downhill (minus the first part with all uphill in the sun).

Gotta say, seeing that parking lot at the end of our return trip was pretty damn amazing.

Best part of day two was definitely our drive to Tomales Bay for oysters!!! Love, love, love, absolute love. Ate ourselves silly on oysters, clams, and mussels with THE SAUCE.

All in all, a wonderful weekend. Traded in my Miami tan for a Farmer’s one, but I am so happy I went on this trip. Hellooo pain behind my left knee, in my ankles, and butt. I’ll deal with that in the days to come - old grandma style.

Happy Birthday, Chris!
